10 Masterpiece
Back to my theory about Mother and our fathers. At this late date
she may or may not remember their names, or anything at all about them. It makes no
difference. She has brought about two conditions that are entirely to her advantage:
1. our fathers don’t know we exist;
2. we reasonably surmise our fathers exist, but we don’t know who
they are.
By making absolutely sure these conditions persisted throughout our
upbringing, she prevented our fathers from making unscheduled appearances, subjecting
all of us to sentimental or ill-tempered scenes, and generally fucking things up. At the
same time she has insured we won’t plague her middle years by seeking out our fathers
and dragging them back into her awareness, or worse, her presence.
Mother has always had a talent for eliminating trouble from her life.
I consider this her masterpiece.
